Comparative Efficacy of Virtual Reality-Guided Gait Training and Conventional Therapy in Patients with Parkinsonian Disorders

Virtual reality (VR)-guided rehabilitation has become a rapidly evolving approach in the management of gait and balance dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Unlike conventional physiotherapy, VR interventions provide immersive, engaging environments that integrate motor and cognitive training simultaneously. This study compares the efficacy of VR-guided gait training with conventional therapy by synthesizing evidence from prior literature and presenting mock outcome data.
Results suggest that VR interventions yield superior improvements in gait speed, stride length, balance, and Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS-III) motor scores. Although accessibility and cost remain limitations, VR demonstrates significant promise as a core rehabilitation strategy. This paper emphasizes the need for integrating VR in clinical practice and outlines directions for future research.
