The Role of Emotional Intelligence in Enhancing Nurse Patient Communication and Its Effect on Care Quality

Emotional Intelligence (EI) plays a critical role in modern nursing, particularly in facilitating effective communication between nurses and patients. This paper examines the impact of EI on nurse-patient interactions and how such competencies enhance the overall quality of care. A review of pre-2019 literature highlights how EI competencies—self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation—lead to improved patient trust, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Data from empirical studies reveal that nurses with high EI scores engage more deeply with patients, contributing to lower burnout and enhanced care environments.
